Deacons

Purpose:  To sponsor and coordinate all mission projects local and otherwise for the Church and to continue to support and lead the congregation in mission. They are involved with the following projects and missions:

• Yearly make recommendations to the Session for missions
• Coordinate the gifts to children at Christmas
• Collect personal supplies for Heart & Soul and Casey House
• Collect nonperishable food for the Salvation Army
• Coordinate the sale of flowers and Christmas and Easter
• Arrange the flowers in the Sanctuary at Christmas and Easter

In December our Deacons put together a Christmas Giving Tree in our foyer with "ornaments" on it requesting gifts for local needy families.  These ornaments specify the age, sex and the wish of the person who needs a gift for Christmas.  

Membership:
Currently Riverside has 9 Deacons plus one Youth Deacon.  Rev. Laura Norris-Buisch is also in attendance at all Deacon meetings.  New members are appointed by the nominating committee each year.

Other duties include:
The Deacons deliver flowers to our Riverside shut-ins at Christmas and Easter (these are donated by members of our congregation).  The Deacons send get well cards with a prayer book mark and cross to those of our congregation that are hospitalized.  Sympathy cards are sent to Riversiders who have suffered a loss of a family member.
